Dear Friends,

In less than a fortnight, on Sunday the 23rd April, I will be running the London Marathon to raise funds for the National Autistic Society.

I decided to use the place that I won in the open ballot to support the NAS as result of a number of events and experiences over the last year or so that have brought me into a closer contact and understanding of autism.

What is autism

Many of you may have seen the Chris Packham two-episode documentary Inside our Autistic Minds which I found to be an amazing and revealing opportunity to learn more about the varied forms of autism.

In that programme there was an interview with Sarah Wild the Head of Limpsfield Grange School which is close to where I live. It is the UK’s only school solely for autistic girls, and has links with the NAS:

At the Boat Show last year I met and was very impressed with an autistic couple running the only sailing charity for autistic sailors:

And within the Insurance community in London, the Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA) has selected NAS as their preferred charity for the period 2022-2025. That partnership is aiming to make working at the LMA and in the Lloyd’s market inclusive for everyone:

I realise that there are many claims on your charitable budget and just want to thank you for any support to help the NAS in its key aims to:

Transform lives by providing support, information and practical advice for more than 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK, as well as their 3,000,000 family members and carers.

Change attitudes by improving public understanding of autism and helping businesses, local authorities and government to provide more autism-friendly spaces, deliver better services and improve laws.

Thank you in advance if you are able make a contribution at:  Paul May running London Marathon for National Autistic Society

and for giving me the opportunity to bring the work of the NAS to your attention.

All best wishes

Paul
